You may be wondering how any of that translates into using a camera for a living (that’s what I thought as well). To my surprise though, blue collar work carries over into photography with many benefits. The fact that you learn to think on feet and problem solve when working on a farm or landscaping translates perfectly into building sets and troubleshooting equipment. I suppose that is also where my love for problem solving and difficult logistics came from. That is why I can’t resist jumping on projects that are logistically challenging or require a gnarly shoot plan. I grew up doing it and continue to love it.

A little about Myself

Hello there, my name is Caleb Hodnefield. As you may of guessed by now I am a product and life style photographer, but that is honestly just a small part of who I am. I grew up on a mix of hobby farming and landscaping. I know it’s a bit of an odd combination, but they complement each other well. The thing that they both have in common though is working with your hands, and this I still enjoy to this day. There is a satisfaction about creating things with your hands, if that may be a stone wall or paver patio in landscaping, or fencing and chores on a hobby farm.

What continues to drive me back to photography every day is the process of it all. Not many other things get me as excited as designing and dreaming up set plans or what it would take to shoot in hard to reach locations. That is also what sets me apart from other photographers. I love to shoot in whatever place supports the product or action I am shooting. If that means rigging a camera to myself as I rock climb or building custom brackets to bring my camera into the remotest places snowmobiling (yes I have done both and many more). Along with building sets, lighting is another one of my strong suits. You can definitely call me a lighting nerd. It’s a fascinating material to me and it brings my work to new heights having the knowledge of how light reacts to all the different surfaces in the world.

If none of that interests you, or you’re just looking for a dude to hang out with that’s all cool. I fill my off time with invigorating down hill mountain biking, obsessing over different ways to make coffee, wood working projects, reading theology books (that are way above my pay grade), and backcountry snowmobiling. People are fascinating and wonderful creations, so if you ever want to meet up I am all for it, just give me a jingle.
